We spend more time on the subway than we do in city parks so why not import some of those activities to the underground?
In fact, why not create an active, engaging and potentially informative environment on subway cars? Putting ideas on the platforms makes no sense for a city on the move, but subway cars dedicated to our passions would increase ridership and our net happiness quotient. A few ideas are posted on http://biber.co/-100-ideasatrade, but here are some thumbnails:
Chess cars (especially speed games!)
Dating Cars (different cars for different sexual orientations, of course)
GED cars (textbooks instead of advertising posters. a new set every week)
Book clubs (a great way to discuss what you are reading, or post a chapter every week in lieu of advertising; the modern serialized novel!)
Pet cars (they are not as bad as some of the passengers, so let’s make space for them)
Live music cars (I know, we already have that, but maybe we can make it a choice)
Prayer cars (again, let’s make these an option, not an annoying presence)
These ideas can work in concert with apps like Next Stop and Exit Strategy to see what trains are arriving and where to stand on the platform to catch your favorite car. Something to look forward to on the subway!
