1. DesigNYC held an event at the Art Directors Club this week to introduce, coordinate, celebrate and educate the latest round of matches between non-profits and designers. But the lasting impression of the meeting was made by the just-hung show of Frank Meo’s “Mind Prints”. The entire gallery is covered in large framed prints of black, Courier-ish type on white backgrounds, each suggesting an image we all know well but have never seen. They are all part the unphotographed cultural history of our times. And they are each a funny, suggestive little moment and trivial pursuit test rolled into a word art piece.
Meo’s book seems, from what I have seen, a bit more elaborated graphically than his show, but that merely proves how little one needs visually when appropriating content one’s art.
